Exterior Grading and Drainage Solutions in Northern Missouri

Most wet basements start in the yard. When the ground around a house is flat, or worse, slopes back toward the foundation, rain has nowhere to go but down along the wall. Add a downspout that dumps a roof's worth of water two feet from the foundation and the soil in that spot stays saturated for days.

Saturated soil is heavy and it pushes. That sideways force, hydrostatic pressure, is what cracks block walls, bows poured walls inward, and drives water through joints and hairline openings that were never a problem when the ground was dry. Grading and drainage are the cheapest structural insurance a homeowner can buy, because they reduce the load on the foundation instead of reinforcing the wall after the load has already done damage.

Our assessment process starts outside. We measure the slope of the ground around the house, trace where water travels and collects during rain, check downspout discharge and window well drainage, and look at the exterior foundation and soil for signs of erosion or settlement.
